As a try to fulfill Cloud’s request about finding some good and positive news about BDSM. My prior posts around BDSM in the media have often been concentrated around the narrow-minded view that I percieve to be the most common one in the media. Well, here you go Cloud – I’ve decided to break my own trend of just finding “bad” BDSM articles on the web. Here is actually a really good one about an author who has written a book about BDSM. His opinion is that people that live in BDSM relationships are actually social pioneers. I couldn’t agree more with him.
By living with BDSM as a foundation of a relationship, you challenge a lot of norms in society. The good news are that norms are a fluid thing that changes from time to time. Maybe the general interest in BDSM, good or bad, is telling us that the norms are about to be re-evaluated and changed?
I love Jay Wiseman’s book _SM 101: A Realistic Introduction_ though it’s not exactly new; the revised expanded 2nd edition I have was published 1996 (Greenery Press in SF, CA). That’s an interesting article; nice also to see that it recognizes some BDSMers are feminists; it brings me back to last month’s IoP Discussion session. 🙂 (That came up during a wide ranging, excellent discussion of why submissives are submissive.)
