It’s that time of the year again, the International BDSM Day is coming up – Mark the 24th of July in your calendar.

The International BDSM day was created by one of owners of Barcelona’s BDSM club Rosas 5, who came up with the concept of celebrating BDSM on the calendar date that corresponded to 24/7 way back in 2003.

Much has happened since 2003, but personally I wish that things would have progressed a bit more.

The international BDSM day has gained more and more attention each year thanks to the internet and people in general now know more about BDSM than they probably did 9 years ago.

But there are still people around the world who are losing custody of their children in custody disputes because they are BDSM practitioners. There are still people who are discriminated because of their sexual orientation and there are still countries that do not allow BDSM.

There are even those who still believe that people, who engage in BDSM, are mentally unstable.

So if you still have doubts on why there should be a special day for BDSM practitioners, then look again at the reasons mentioned above.

The international BDSM day is important in many ways and one of the main reason is that it exposes BDSM. It helps to show that BDSM practitioners can be anyone, it could be your sister, your mother or your son. It is simply ordinary people all around us who might be a BDSM practitioner.

It is important for the BDSM community to face the public if we are to be recognized and if what we are should be seen as a sexual orientation rather than a sexual practice. At the same time, it is equally important to the BDSM community to meet their own prejudices so that we do not use the public as an excuse to close ourselves. Interaction should play an important role during the International BDSM day.

Acceptance can only be achieved through knowledge and knowledge can only be achieved through interaction between people.

Use the international BDSM day to meet people, invite friends home and tell them what BDSM is all about. Tell them about the respect and communication that exist in BDSM based relationships. Go out into a park and invite people to ask questions about BDSM and tell them what BDSM means to you.
Use the international BDSM days to improve your rights by influencing governments and their perception of BDSM practitioners. Make sure to change laws that effectively prevent people from being open about their sexuality.
The international BDSM day is all about you and it becomes what you make it into, so be sure to make the best of it.
