I’m always surprised by how media depicts BDSM – And yet, at the same time, not surprised at all…
My guess is that it’s the nature of media today that makes it do what it does when it expands on all the “extremes” within in BDSM. Pain, emotions, instabilities etc. are all the operating words that are emphasized when there is a new documentary about BDSM on the block.
I’ve seen quite few to this date and the shock value is always a card that is being pulled out in everyone of them in order to keep the viewer’s attention.
Culture X seems to go for the same thing, a fair amount of shock value – But when Asagi Ageha, a Japanese aerial and bondage performance talks, about BDSM connected to cultural values and as a cathartic, experience,then things get very interesting.
